Eén van de bekendere steenkolenengels-grapjes: “dat zit wel snor” naar het Engels vertalen met “that sits well mustache”. Maar hoe vertaal je deze uitdrukking dan wél naar het Engels? Dat is nog wat lastiger dan je zou denken.
Als je met “dat zit wel snor” bedoelt dat je zeker weet dat iets goed komt, dan kun je iets zeggen als “without a doubt!”. Maar als b.v. een (beginnend) stelletje goed bij elkaar past vind ik het lastig om een Engelse vertaling te vinden die deze term goed weergeeft.
Zoals altijd doe ik hieronder een poging.
