Als je in het Engels schrijft, is het belangrijk om te kiezen voor Amerikaans of voor Brits Engels. Welke je het beste kunt kiezen, bespreek ik volgende week, maar nu vast een test om te kijken welk soort Engels je van nature schrijft.
Een snelle test om te kijken welk Engels je intuïtief prefereert
Pak iets om te schrijven en schrijf de missende woorden op in de volgende zinnen. (Echt schrijven, hoor! Het gaat namelijk ook om de spelling.) Als je een bepaald woord niet weet, sla hem dan over. Zoek geen woorden op.
Bij deze zinnen gaat het om de spelling:

I like that dress, but I don’t like the col…….. . Pink doesn’t suit me.

Kun je meerdere woorden noemen, kies dan welk woord jij zou gebruiken als je een tekst schreef, het woord dat je het meest ligt.

You are not allowed to chew gum here, please throw it in the ……….. .(vuilnisbak)
The baby’s …….. needs changing. (luier)
You can drive up to 130 km per hour on the ……… . (snelweg)
