Ik zou zo graag een Engels woord hebben dat lijkt op ons “nietszeggend”. Het is zo’n fijn woord dat precies uitdrukt wat er staat: “something that just says nothing“, ofzo. Jammergenoeg zullen Engelstaligen dat niet goed begrijpen, en het klinkt raar. Het Engels heeft simpelweg geen directe vertaling van “nietszeggend”.
Het Engels heeft voor “nietszeggend” heel veel woorden om uit te kiezen, en elk woord betekent net iets anders. Soms mis ik de betekenis van “nietszeggend”, soms vind ik juist dat het Engels meer nuance heeft om uit te kiezen.
