Een uitstekende vraag in mijn mailbox: “Snoepen, en dan: “Ik snoep niet”. I don’t eat candy. I don’t eat sweets. Deze vertalingen niet, want: ze lijken me te ‘beperkt’, te ‘nauw’’. ‘Niet snoepen’ betekent (volgens mij) naast het letterlijke ‘geen snoep eten’ ook: geen chocola, en geen koekjes bij de koffie, geen taart.”
Een echte uitdaging, want het woord “snoepen” naar het Engels vertalen is niet alleen een probleem als het om “niet snoepen” gaat, maar ook als het om wél snoepen gaat! Ik heb hieronder mijn best gedaan.
